It was Date Night at the box office this weekend as the new Steve Carell/Tina Fey comedy took the top spot in its opening weekend. The film, directed Night at the Museum‘s Shawn Levy, premiered in 3,374 theaters and earned $8,032 per theater for a opening weekend gross of around $27.1 million, just about half of it’s purported $55 million production budget. Falling 56.1%, as well as one spot back on the charts from last week was the 3D remake of the classic ’80s Greek-mythology film Clash of the Titans starring Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes. The film, which actually added 25 theaters from the previous week was seen in roughly 3,802 theaters and earned about $7,069 per theater for a second weekend total of $26.8 million. That brings the films total gross in just two weeks to $110.4 million, just shy of earning back its purported $125 million production budget.
